Janitrol: Many problems associated with gas furnace heat exchangers some models have been recognized to have a factory defect. these models all are of the GMP series and manufactured in 1993 or early 1994. To check your Janitrol furnace check the model #, if the first three letters are GMP this is a GMP series furnace, check the Serial #, if the first two numbers are 93 and your heat exchanger has not been replaced then you most likely will experience a cracked heat exchanger well before the warranty expires on the heat exchanger.
Ruud and Rheem: (1988-2000) These units although considered by me to be of better then average quality, do have some problems that seem to be repetitive. Systems seem to develop leaks in the "A"coil and accumulator at a more then average rate of occurrence.
York and Luxair: Units with model numbers beginning with DBRA or DGRA are known to have faulty circuit boards. Although basically sound units, the circuit boards are definitely a weak link.
Lennox: The lennox Pulse furnace pioneered the 90% efficient furnace and as with most new technology some problems have arose. The most significant of which is heat exchanger failure due to the weld between the primary and secondary heat exchangers breaking loose.
If you know of other brand problems not mentioned here please E-mail them to pioneer@cox.net and I will gladly post them after investigating the problem. I will only list problems in which I consider to be likely to cause a major replacement of components prior to the normal life expectancy of today's equipment.
